چکیده

1. Preconditioned Iterative Solvers with Multicoloring In the previous work [1], author developed an efficient parallel iterative solver for finite-element applications on the Earth Simulator (ES) [2] using multi-level hybrid parallel programming model with MPI and OpenMP. The method employs three-level hybrid parallel programming model for SMP cluster architectures, consisting of MPI, OpenMP and vectorization. Multicolor-based reordering methods have been applied to distributed data sets on each SMP node in order to achieve optimum performance of Krylov iterative solvers with ILU/IC type preconditioning (Fig.1). Developed method attained 3.8 TFLOPS with 176 SMP nodes of ES, corresponding to more than 33% of the peak performance (11.3 TFLOPS) [1].

Parallel Multigrid Solvers Using OpenMP/MPI Hybrid Programming Models on Multi-Core/Multi-Socket Clusters

OpenMP/MPI hybrid parallel programming models were implemented to 3D finite-volume based simulation code for groundwater flow problems through heterogeneous porous media using parallel iterative solvers with multigrid preconditioning. Performance and robustness of the developed code has been evaluated on the “T2K Open Supercomputer (Tokyo)” and “Cray-XT4” using up to 1,024 cores through both of...

Parallel Library for Unstructured Mesh Problems (PLUMP)

The growing class of applicationswhich solve partial differential equations (PDEs) on unstructured adaptive meshes is considered. Solution to such sparse, non-symmetric and in most cases ill-conditioned systems is often obtained using iterative methods. This paper describes the specification and implementationof the Parallel Library for Unstructured Mesh Problems (PLUMP), which supports the tra...

Parallel Multilevel Solution of Nonlinear Shell Structures

The analysis of large–scale nonlinear shell problems asks for parallel simulation approaches. One crucial part of efficient and well scalable parallel FE–simulations is the solver for the system of equations. Due to the inherent suitability for parallelization one is very much directed towards preconditioned iterative solvers. However thin walled structures discretized by finite elements lead t...

Comparison of Direct and Iterative Sparse Linear Solvers for Power System Applications on Parallel Computing Platforms

This paper presents a performance comparison of sparse linear solvers based on iterative and direct methods for power system applications implemented on parallel computing platform. The iterative sparse linear solver evaluated in this paper is based on the conjugate gradient algorithm with a Jacobi pre-conditioner executed on a general purpose graphic processing unit (GPGPU). The direct solvers...

Weighted Matrix Ordering and Parallel Banded Preconditioners for Iterative Linear System Solvers

The emergence of multicore architectures and highly scalable platforms motivates the development of novel algorithms and techniques that emphasize concurrency and are tolerant of deep memory hierarchies, as opposed to minimizing raw FLOP counts. While direct solvers are reliable, they are often slow and memory-intensive for large problems. Iterative solvers, on the other hand, are more efficien...
